Vines
Weldon B. Vines was born June 8,
1919 in Comanche County, Texas to
Callie and Nancy Vines.  He died at his
home February 12, 2007.  
He grew up on a farm where he
learned to love nature.  He joined the
Baptist Church at a young age.  He
graduated from Texas A&M University
in 1940 and married Lilli Belle
McPherson.  He served in the US Air
Force during World War II.  After the
war, he worked for Farm Security and
taught agriculture in GI School.  He
spent thirty years in ranch
management.  He was an avid
outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing,
hunting, and team roping.
Weldon is survived by his wife of 66
years, Lilli Belle and their three
daughters and their husbands:  Kay
and James Meadows of Houston,
Texas, DeAnna and Ferrell Lake of
Montgomery, Texas,  and Vicki and
Bobby Josey of Kingwood, Texas.  He
was known as “Pop” to his six
grandchildren:  Clay Meadows and wife
Nora, Forrest Meadows, Carl
Meadows, Jennifer Butler and husband
Todd, Nicole Fitzgerald and husband
Eddie, and Taryn Josey  and six great-
grandchildren and one great-great
grandchild.  Weldon is also survived by
two brothers:  T.C. Vines of
Hempstead and Truitt Vines and wife
Elteen of Synder, Texas, nephew
James Vines and wife Betty and great-
nephew J.R. Vines and wife Jennifer.
The service will be Thursday at 3:00
pm at McWilliams Funeral Home with
Bro. Eugene Dewveall of Hempstead
Church of Christ officiating.  Burial will
be at Hempstead Cemetery.

Forrest Meadows, Carl Meadows,
Eddie Fitzgerald, James Vines and J.R.

Grace V. Hancock, 84, formerly of
Hempstead, Texas passed away
Saturday, February 10, 2007 in
Poteet, Texas.  She was born July
14, 1922 to Charles Holick and
Annie Stasny Holick in Monaville,

Arnold Omer McMakin, 80, of
Hempstead, passed away Tuesday,
March 27, 2007 in Bellville, Texas.  He
was born September 15, 1926 in
Brenham, Texas to Manley McMakin
and Annie Robinson McMakin.  He
served in the US Army in World War II
in the Philippines.  He married his wife
of 54 years, Artie Mae Ellerman, on
February 15, 1953.   He is survived by
his wife Artie Mae, daughter Cindy
Lundberg and her husband Brian,
grandson Dustin Lundberg, sister
Lena Jaggers, and brother Arthur

the Eastern Star.  She is preceded in

Lou.  She is survived by her son Glen

Lucy Jewel Chaddick, 88, of
Hempstead, Texas passed away
Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at
Bellville General Hospital.  She was
born June 17, 1919 in Houston, Texas
to Clarence Chaddick and Jewel
Brumlow Chaddick.  She grew up in
Pine Island, Texas and attended
Waller schools.  Lucy was a member of
Pine Island Baptist Church.  She was a
welder for Hughes Oil Tool for 40
years.  After retirement, Lucy enjoyed
gardening and raising all kinds of small
animals, including goats and rabbits.  
She is preceded in death by her
parents Clarence and Jewel, and her
brother William Ray Chaddick. Lucy is
survived by her brother Clarence Lee
Chaddick and her sister in-law Bernice

Willie Dan Kennedy, 92, formerly of
Hempstead , Texas passed away
Friday, November 16, 2007 in College
Station .  He was born September 20,
1915 in Lovelady , Texas to James
Jefferson Kennedy and Nora Louise
Kennedy.  Dan married Marjorie
Harding February 28, 1942 .  He
served in the US Army during WWII
from 1943-1946 in the 651st
Engineering Battalion.  The couple
moved to Hempstead in 1948 where he
worked for Waller County Road &
Bridge from 1948-1953 and for the
Texas Department of Transportation
from 1953-1972.  In 1972 he started
his own land surveying business and
retired from it in 1980.  Dan was the
minister of music at First Baptist
Church of Hempstead for 42 years
where he also served as a deacon and
Sunday school teacher.  He was a
member of Rock Prairie Baptist Church
in College Station , Texas for the last
four years of his life.  Dan enjoyed
hunting, fishing, camping and
fellowship with his family and friends.  
He is preceded in death by Marjorie,
his wife of 55 years, his parents, two
brothers and two sisters.  Dan is
survived by his son, Dan H. Kennedy
and wife Sharon of College Station and
two grandsons:  Clay Kennedy of
Austin , Texas and Stephen Kennedy
and wife Ann of Waco, Texas.  He is
also survived by two
great-grandchildren:  Caleb and Mabry
Kennedy.  A visitation will be held

daughter, Rose Goodrich.  He is
survived by his sister, Gene Obert, of
Rivertown, Wyoming and his brother
Johnny Goodrich of Espanole, New
Mexico.  He is also survived by his
daughter Belinda Middleton of Austin,
Texas, his son Bruce Goodrich of
