Luella Helen Masora, 95, recently of
Katy, Texas, passed away Monday,
January 5, 2015. She was born
November 5, 1919 to George Krueger
and Ema Schwake Krueger in Toledo,
Ohio.  She taught school at
Farmington ISD in the state of
Michigan for many years. She is
preceded in death by her husband
Richard and survived by her son
Michael Paul Masora, her daughters
Janice Katherine Wreschnig and Carol
Kay Freitag, eight grandchildren, and
seven great-grandchildren. Funeral
service: Friday, January 9, 2015 at
11:00am at McWilliams Funeral Home
in Hempstead, Texas with a visitation

Julia Mae McGill, 84, of Hempstead,
11, 2015 in Cameron, Texas. She was
born June 8, 1930 To Otto Wendt and
Beulah Alice Duck Wendt in
Hempstead, Texas. She is fondly
remembered by the residents of
Hempstead as the soda fountain clerk
at Ward’s Pharmacy. Julia “Judy” is
preceded in death by her husband
William “Mac” McGill and is survived by
her sister Kittie Schneebeli, three step-
granddaughters: Laura McGill, Tiffany
Lazek and husband Fabian, and
Brittany McGill, three step-great-
grandchildren, and numerous nephews

Pushpa Doctor, 88, formerly of
Hempstead, Texas, passed away
Friday, January 16, 2015 in Cypress,
Texas. She was born August 12, 1926
in Mumbai, India. Mrs. Doctor was an
artist. She leaves behind her husband
Vasant Doctor, sons Shreenath, Uday,
and Ravi Doctor, and four
grandchildren. Arrangements were

Bennatte
Karen Alece Taylor Bennate, 63, of
Hempstead, Texas went home to the
Lord on February 2, 2015 at St. Karen
was born July 1, 1951 in born to
Charles M. and Edna L. Taylor. Karen
was a long-time resident of
Hempstead, attending both Jr. high
and high school there. She worked for
20 years at DiIorio’s Fruit & Vegetable
market both as a cashier and in their
flower department. She worked five
years at Shur-Co.
Karen married James E. Bennatte April
20, 1968, sharing 46 happy and
blessed years with him. She was a
member of Faith United Church. A
child of God, she was a living example
of faith to all that knew her. Karen
never met a stranger and helped
others as she could. She loved
singing, flower arranging, cooking, and
baking. Many have cherished
memories of Karen.
Karen is preceded in death by her
parents Charles and Edna Taylor, and
her brother-in-law Eddie Ortega. She
is survived by her husband, James E.
Bennatte, brothers Keith A. Taylor of
California, Dennis M. Taylor of
Angleton, Texas, Gary Taylor and wife
Jeanatte Taylor of Hempstead, Texas;
sister Elyane Taylor Ortega of
Hempstead; sisters-in-law Wanda

J.D. Loesch was born March 20, 1942  
in Kenney, Texas, the son of Theo and
Hempstead, Texas with his wife of 51
years, Ruby Bennatt.  He worked for
the City of Hempstead for 33 years. He
was a volunteer EMT and a volunteer
fireman for Hempstead for many years.
He loved helping people and never
met a stranger. He enjoyed camping,
fishing, hunting, and spending time
with his grandchildren. J.D. passed
away on March 5, 2015 at the age of
72. He is survived by his wife Ruby,
daughters Tracy Meador, Lacey
Pitchford and husband Steven,
grandchildren Austin Jones, Steven
Pitchford Jr. and wife Brittany, Brandon
Lindgren, great Grandchildren Aubrey
and Steven Pitchford III, sisters
Dolores Ford and husband Jerry, and
Gladys Ueckert, sister-in-law Reva

Texas passed away Sunday, March
15, 2015. She was one of four children
born to Ernest Berger and Clara
Gerlach Berger in Paige, Texas on
April 25, 1917. Agnes is survived by
four grandchildren: Robert Karcher,
Karen Kinchen, Susan Bulkley, and
Darryl Karcher, sister Florence Herzog,
10 great-grandchildren, and 3
great-great grandchildren. Funeral

Mercy Ostigin, 77, of Hempstead,
Texas, passed away Tuesday, April
16, 2015 at her home. She was born
September 24, 1937 to Apolonio
Casarez and Manuela Ruiz Casarez in
Brady, Texas. Mercy is preceded in
death by her husband, Bernardo
Ostigin, Sr. and is survived by her
sons: Ben Ostigin and wife Margarita,
Bonifacio Ostigin, and Johnny Ostigin
and wife Marina; daughters Nancy
Ortega and husband Randy and
Juanita Turner and husband Craig;
brothers Martin, Cayetano, and
Thomas Casarez; sister Anita Hall and
husband Charles; 16 grandchildren,
and 12 great-grandchildren. The

Charles Stanley “Stan” Chmiel II, 49, of
Hockley, Texas passed away Tuesday,
April 21, 2015. He was born November
30, 1965 to Charles Stanley Chmiel

Texas.  Stan is preceded in death by
his stepfather Anthony "Lynn" Pettijohn
and is survived by his father Charles

Chmiel
Sheldon
LaVelle McSpedden Sheldon was
called home to be with her heavenly
Father on May 4, 2015.  She had just
turned 88 years old. A native Texas,
LaVelle was born in Pilot Grove, Texas
to Howard and Hazel McSpedden.  As
she was fond of saying, she was the
fifth child and fourth daughter of ten
children.  She attended Baylor Nursing
School and graduated as a registered
nurse.  She married Robert B. Sheldon
in 1953 and they had four children –
Susan, Martha, George and Patti.  
LaVelle was a great wife – helping Bob
in numerous remodeling projects,
working as his office nurse, refinishing
antiques, feeding the cows and going
for Sunday drives.  She was a
wonderful mom – playful, funny,
creative and an expert seamstress.  
LaVelle enjoyed gardening, reading,
going to Texas A&M women’s
basketball games and attending all of
Scout’s athletic games and Hornet
Band activities. She has gone home to
be reunited with Bob, her husband of
35 years; an infant daughter; brothers
Davis, Charles and Douglas; sister
Dorothy “Sister;” and in-laws Bob, Don,
Pete, Henry and Joanne.  She will be
greatly missed by her children, Susan,
Martha, George and wife Dianne, and
Patti and husband Mark; her
grandchildren, Scout, Marty, David,
Robert, Thomas, Luke, Jacob, Joshua,
Elizabeth, Matthew and Joseph and
two great-grandchildren. Heartfelt
thanks goes to the nurses, CNAs and
her special angels Debra, Darlene,
Rhonda and Connie as well as Joy
Trevino, GNP. A private graveside
memorial service will be held in north
Texas at a later date.  In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be sent to
Scottish Rite or Burleson County
Cowboy Church. Arrangements were

Felix Trevino Ramirez, 66, passed
away Monday, May 11, 2015. He was
born August 26, 1948 to Martin
Ramirez and Eustolia Trevino Ramirez
in Rosita Coahuila, Mexico. Felix is
survived by his wife Luz Ramirez, sons
Martin Ramirez, Oscar Ramirez and
wife Paula, and Aron Ramirez,
brothers: Salatiel, Mavro, and José
Ramirez; sisters: Petra, Oralia, Amelia,
and Zapopa; and one granddaughter
Alyssa Ramirez. Funeral services were

Romeo
Texas passed away Sunday, August
23, 2015 at his home. He was born
May 10, 1921 to Carmello Romeo and
Therese Galuzzo Romeo in Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania. Mr. Romeo was a major
in the United States Air Force who
served in World War II, Korea, and Viet
Nam. He is survived by his son William
Anthony Romeo, daughters: Karen
Romeo Rothman, Barbara Ann
Romeo, and Patricia Weldon, brother
Thomas Romeo, sister Elvie DiRusso,
10 grandchildren, and 13
great-grandchildren. Arrangements

Haedge
Evelyn Mittanck Haedge died in Kyle,
Texas on September 3, 2015.  She
was 89 years old.  Evelyn was born on
March 2, 1926, in Bellville, Texas to
her parents, Gerhardt and Isabel
Mittanck. Evelyn was raised in
Buckhorn and graduated from Bellville
High School.  She married Milbert
Haedge on December 18, 1948.  
Milbert and Evelyn resided in Austin
County where they began raising their
family.  In 1964, the family moved to
Hempstead, Texas, where Milbert
worked for Southwestern Bell and
Evelyn worked for the Hempstead
Independent School District.  Evelyn
retired in 1986 and dedicated her
remaining time to gardening, sewing,
and reading; educating and caring for
her grandchildren; and working with
the United Methodist Women at First
United Methodist Church of Hempstead
where she was a member since 1964.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her
parents, Gerhardt and Isabel Mittanck;
sister, Isabel “Metsy” Pipkin; brother,
Eugene Mittanck; and son, Ronald
Haedge. Evelyn is survived by her
husband of 66 years, Milbert Haedge;
sister, Geraldine Luetge of Industry,
Texas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Mittanck
of Bellville, Texas; daughter-in-law
Deborah Haedge King of Lake
Tawakoni, Texas; daughter and son-in-
law, Janis and Richard Barnett of
Hoover, Alabama; son and daughter-in-
