Eric Berto Zubieta, 20, of Houston,
Texas passed away Sunday,
January 10, 2016. He was born
February 4, 1995 to Patricio Zubieta
and Yolanda Rodrigues Zubieta in
Houston, Texas. Eric is survived by his
parents Patricio and Yolanda Zubieta,
his sisters Gladys Zubieta, Debra
Zubieta, and Vanessa Rodriguez, his
grandparents Santiago and María
Ascencíon Zubieta, his uncles:
Santiago, Ruben, Joel, Rene, Ernesto,
and Humberto, and his aunts: Roxana,

Philip Marvin Stark, 61, of Hempstead,
Texas passed away Friday, January 1,
2016. He was born August 24, 1954 to
Robert Stark and Dorothy Louise Stark
in Tucson, Arizona. He leaves behind
his friend Jerry Fellers. Arrangements

Doris Jean “Jeanie” Gross, formerly of
Hempstead, passed away on Tuesday,
Jan 19, 2016, at the age of 80 years in
Columbus. Jeanie was the 3rd of four
daughters born to Hubert and Lucy
(Brokmeyer) Suchadoll on November
8, 1935 in Frelsburg. She grew up on
the family farm in Frelsburg, and
attended Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic
School in Frelsburg and St. John
School in Fayetteville, before her
marriage to Wilfred Gross on
Thanksgiving Day, November 26,
1953. The family lived in Hempstead
for many years, where Jeanie was a
seamstress and provided childcare in
her home. She was preceded in death
by her husband, parents, grandson
Darrell Ray Gross, Jr, and sister Lois
Moeller. Survivors include son Darrell
Gross and wife Barbara of Hempstead;
daughters Janice McDonald of
Hempstead, and Sue Gross  and Bob
of Lake Jackson; 2 grandchildren; 3
great-grandchildren; sisters Eudene
Richter and Delbertha Luedke.
Pallbearers are Ernie Richter, Nick
Dudensing, Mike Iselt, Ronald Luedke,
Douglas Luedke, Bruce Luedke.

to John Henry Ragston and Earnestine

for many years. She is survived by three

Herrera
William Harvey Rasco was born on
January 4th 1925 in Pasadena, Texas
and is preceded in death by his wife
Helen and two children, William and
Ronald. He is survived by four children
Della Rasco Ryan, Harvey Rasco, Paul
Rasco and Earl Rasco and his brother
Eugene. Bill leaves behind 11
Grandchildren, 16 Great
Grandchildren and 14 Great, Great
Grandchildren. Bill joined the U.S.
Army during WWII where he made the
rank of Sargent. Based in California,
he met and married his true love Helen
in 1945. Bill and Helen moved from
California back to Texas where their
family grew to six children and where
Bill worked as an Executive for HL&P.
Upon retiring from the light company,
Bill and his sons built an import/export
business on Houston's ship channel
which began a long history of
entrepreneurship within the Rasco
family that continues to this day.
Always a man on the go, Bill also made
time for family a priority and could
always be counted on for providing the
younger generations with guidance
and direction, even when they did not
ask for it... As the patriarch of our
family and the greatest man we have
ever known, you will be dearly missed
and remembered always. Graveside

Rasco
Kahanek
Charles Leo Kahanek, of Hempstead,
Texas died on Saturday, April 30,
2016, having fought Leukemia and
Lymphoma for the past two decades.
He lived in Hempstead since 1983.
Charlie was born July 26, 1942 in
Sweet Home, Texas to George and
Lucy Kahanek. During his youth in
Freeport, Texas, he developed his
lifelong loves of fishing, gardening and
barbecue. First and foremost though,
was his racing. As a young teen,
Charlie began racing. He learned all
he could and eventually began
building and racing his own cars.
When his illness would no longer allow
him to be behind the wheel; he used
his knowledge, time, money and
expertise to guide the next generation
of CK Racing. His love of racing drove
him for over 60 years. His many
trophies attest to his skill and
competitiveness. Charles is preceded
in death by his father and mother. He
is survived by his daughter Charlotte
Massey, stepdaughter Kara Derrick,
and stepson Jeff Schultea; 8
grandchildren and 1 great
granddaughter; sister Georgia
Gamble; aunts Catherine Wenzel and
Beth Hoffer and niece Alicia Starr. A
memorial will be held in Charlie's honor
on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his
shop. Stop by between 1:00 and 3:00
to pay respects to the family.

Fred Edward “Ed” Wollgast, 73, of
Hempstead, Texas passed away
Tuesday, May 17, 2016. He was born
April 10, 1943 to Roland Herman
Wollgast and Lorine Ella Reinhardt
Wollgast in Bellville, Texas. Ed was a
lifetime farmer dedicated to raising
peanuts, corn, cotton, and hay along
with cattle, hogs, and poultry using the
old John Deere 2 cylinder and 4
cylinder International tractors. He
always liked to tell jokes and wore
disguises to make people laugh in
addition to taking care of and being
dedicated to all his animals. He was
baptized and confirmed early in life at
St. John’s Lutheran Church of Waller.
Ed led a good life and found time to
spend with the youngsters of the family
and all of his good friends. He is
preceded in death by his parents
Roland and Lorine, and his great-
niece Peyton Wollgast. Ed is survived
by his brother Ronald Wollgast and his
wife Betty, sister Evelyn Ralston and
her husband Wayne, numerous nieces
and nephews, and lots of loving

Emeronce Murentine Heyne McEvoy
Kennedy, 97, formerly of Hempstead,
Texas, passed away Sunday, June 19,
2016. She was born July 8, 1918 to
Robert Frank Heyne and Frances
Marguerite Heim Heyne in Houston,
Texas. She was a 1936 graduate of
San Jacinto High School and a 1941
graduate of Rice Institute. She married
Jonathan Chase McEvoy December
15, 1941 and was widowed in 1978.
Emeronce married Scott Kennedy, Jr.
September 23, 1982 and was widowed
in 1988. She lived in Hempstead from
1941 until 2015 when she moved
closer to her children in Houston. She
was active in St. Bartholomew
Episcopal Church, Hempstead, Texas;
Study Club, Garden Club, and bridge
groups. Emeronce is preceded in
death by her parents, her sister Mary
Louise Heyne Clark, and husbands
Chase McEvoy and Scott Kennedy, Jr.
She is survived by her children:

Jesse Wayne “Pete” Frazier, 65, of
Hempstead, Texas passed away
Sunday, August 14, 2016. He was born
May 4, 1951 to Billie F. Frazier and
Mariam Edith Scroggins Frazier in
Hempstead, Texas. Pete received his
education in Hempstead and worked
as an appraiser, traveling all around
Texas. Upon returning to Hempstead,
he worked as a painter for his brother
and later started his own contract
painting business. After retirement, he
continued to do special jobs for people
in his area. Pete is best known for his
outdoorsmanship, bow hunting, fishing,
and many hobbies such as farming
and tanning hides. Pete was liked by
everyone who met him due to his
kindness and generosity. He will be
missed by all, especially his family. As
relayed by his mother, he was a very
dependable, loving person. Pete is
preceded in death by his father Billie,
and brothers David and Glen. He is
survived by his mother Miriam Frazier
Shipley and husband Larry, brother
Billy R. Frazier, and sisters Elaine

Jack William Wendt, Age 92, of
Hempstead, Texas, passed away on
October 26, 2016 at the VA Hospital in
Houston, Texas.  He was born
November 27, 1923 in Hempstead,
Texas to Max and Julia Wendt. Jack by
his parents, Max and Julia Wendt, his
brothers Edmond and Raymond Wendt
and his sister, Ruby Hargrave.
He is survived by many nieces and
nephews, whom he has left a lasting
legacy, he will be greatly missed.

Hempstead, Texas, passed away
November 16, 2016 at his home in
Hempstead. Pat was born in San
Antonio, Texas to Charline and Hugh
Romine on February 27, 1951. He
went to high school at Memorial High
School in Houston until his junior year
when he moved to Hempstead. He
graduated in 1969 from Hempstead
High School. He attended Blinn and
Sam Houston and majored in business
communications. He was self-employed
for many years, worked in
construction, owned several
businesses and later became a
computer networking engineer.   He
enjoyed going to the beach with his
family, playing the guitar and spending
time with his wife, children, and

beloved grandparents. He is survived
by his wife, Jackie Jackson Romine of
Hempstead, son Jason Romine and
wife Kayla of College Station, daughter
Erica Hare and husband Brandon of
Pearland, sister Jay Ann Quilter of New
Braunfels, sister Karen Paris of The
Colony, four beloved granddaughters
Haleigh and Hannah Hare and
Ashleigh and Amanda Romine, sisters
in-law June Jackson and Judy Broadus
of Hempstead, aunts Connie Romine
Duke of Austin and Mary Lou Duke of
San Antonio, and numerous nieces
and nephews. A memorial service will
be held at St. Bartholomew Episcopal
Church on Monday, November 21 at
1:00 pm. with Father Tom Wallace
officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family
asks that memorials be made in Pat’s

Ignacia Herrera Figueroa, 83, of
Hempstead, Texas passed away
Saturday, December 10, 2016. She
was born July 31, 1934 to Herman
Herrera, Sr. and Antonio Rodriguez
Herrera in Hempstead, Texas. She is
preceded in death by her parents
Herman and Antonio, and is survived
by her sons: John D. Tomczak, Joe R.
Figueroa, and Michael Ray Figueroa;
daughters: Mary H. Lopez, Janie
Herrera, and Amanda Lopez; brothers:
Herman Herrera, Jr., Jay Herrera,
Manuel Herrera, Sr., and Alex Herrera;
sisters Lillian Juarez and Fannie
Vasquez; 19 grandchildren, and
numerous great-grandchildren. A
visitation will be held Thursday,
December 15, 2017 from 1:00 pm until
7:00 pm at McWilliams Funeral Home,
Hempstead.
