Jody McCarty went to be with the Lord
Thursday, September 16, 2004 after a
lengthy illness.  He was born in Burke,
Texas on May 21, 1912 and died at his
home in Hempstead where he had
resided for over 50 years at the age of
92.  He was graduate of Sam Houston
State University where he received a
Bachelor of Science degree in
Agriculture.  He was an Agriculture
teacher, a county extension agent, and
owner of McCarty Feed Store and
served two terms as county
commissioner.  His public services
included president of the school board,
fire chief, active in 4H and FFA,
belonged to the Masonic Lodge and
Sons of Hermann.  His interests
included farming, ranching, fishing,
and hunting.  He is survived by his wife
Mary Ann McCarty of Hempstead,
three sons:  Donny, Paul, and James;
two daughters:  Mary Jo Simpson and
Jeanette Dollar.  Services held

Grace Elizabeth Shockey, 69, of
Hempstead, Texas passed away
Thursday, October 28, 2004 at her
home.  She was born April 29, 1935 in
San Antonio, Texas to Dan Burl
Grafton and Elizabeth Rose Roberts
Grafton.  She is survived by her
husband, Verlie "Bub" Shockey,
mother Rose Grafton, sons:  Curtis
Woolever and wife Rebecca and Terry
Woolever and wife Rose; daughter
Mari West; stepdaughters:  Denise
Shockey, Melissa Thomas and
husband Randy, Verline Fowler and
husband Larry; stepson Michael
Shockey; brother Burl Grafton and wife
Suzzi; sister Peggy Berry and husband
Ray; and numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.  Memorial
services held Saturday, October 30,
2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian
Church in Hempstead with Reverend
John Millhollan officiating.

Eliana D. Ferrada, 73, of Waller, Texas
passed away Saturday, November 6,
2004 at Woodlands Memorial Hermann
Hospital.  She was born April 15, 1931
in Santiago, Chile to Oscar Espinosa
and Anna Molina Espinosa.  She is
survived by her husband Luis Ferrada,
sons Gustavo and Marcelo Ferrada,
daughter Carla Chargois and 4
grandchildren.  Memorial services held

Beatrice Ann Hayhurst, 76, of
Hempstead, Texas passed away
Wednesday, November 10, 2004.  She
was born August 10, 1928 in Trenton,
New Jersey to Frank Fulenwider and
Kathleen Lyston Fulenwider.  She is
survived by her husband Ed Hayhurst,
sons:  Chester Dewey Vaughan, Jim
Hayhurst, Phillip Hayhurst, Les
Hayhurst, and Randy Hayhurst;
daughters:  Susan Gonzales, Janet
Hampton, Linda Fredieu and Kathy
Lowe; brothers Jimmy and Jack
Fulenwider; sisters:  Kathleen Ryan,
Nancy Wilkens, and Joyce Kirk; 20
grandchildren and 2

LAFAYETTE – Juanita Louise Brian
Foster, 82, died Saturday, November
20th in Lafayette, LA.  Services will be
held at the United Methodist Church in
her native hometown of Hempstead,
Texas on Tuesday, November 23,
2004 with Reverend Richard Laster
officiating under the direction of
McWilliams Funeral Home, Hempstead.

Mrs. Foster was a Sunday School
teacher and active supporter of the
Hempstead United Methodist Church
for over 35 years.  She was also a
board member of the Boy Scouts of
America - Sam Houston Area Council
for 40 years, and was awarded the
“Silver Beaver” in 1992, the highest
honor the Boy Scout organization can
bestow upon a female civilian.

Mrs. Foster was a loving and devoted
wife of Arrell F. Foster for over 63
years, who survives her. Other
survivors include her brother D.A.
Brian, one sister Marie Chandler
Pendergrass, one son, Brian David
Foster, wife Molly and two
grandchildren Blake and Blair Foster
of Lafayette, LA.; daughter-in-law
Marilyn Foster and two grandchildren
Andrew Foster and Jennifer
Scarborough, as well as four great-
grandchildren currently living in
Beaumont, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her
parents Pearl and Joe Meadows, and
her son Arrell F. Foster III.
Her strength, kindness, support and
generosity will be missed by many.  
Alfones Sebesta, 73, of Hempstead,
Texas passed away Thursday,
November 25, 2004 at his home.  He
was born in Washington County, Texas
to Rudolph Sebesta and Martha Hintzel
Sebesta on March 26, 1931.  He is
survived by his wife Frances, son
Bobby and wife Connie, sister
Gertrude Bryzmialkiwicz,
granddaughter Jennifer McKay and
husband Larry, Jr., and two great-
grandchildren Larry McKay III and Lily
McKay.  Visitation:  Sunday, November
28, 2004 at St. Katharine Drexel
Church from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer
vigil at 6:00 p.m.  Funeral Liturgy:  
Monday, November 29, 2004 at 10:00
a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Church.
